Start with common prefixes and suffixes. Look for pangrams (words using all 7 letters) for bonus points. Take breaks and come back with fresh eyes. Keep a list of words you've tried to avoid repetition.
Words may not be accepted if they are: less than 4 letters, don't include the center letter, are proper nouns, hyphenated, vulgar, or simply not in our dictionary. We use a standard open dictionary to validate your guesses but we exclude proper nouns and offensive terms to keep the game fair. If you believe a valid word is missing you can contact us to suggest an addition to our word list.
The complete word list is not revealed during gameplay to maintain the challenge. However, you can see all the words you've found in the "Found Words" section. After 24 hours, you can check Yesterday's answers for daily spelling bee game.
The game updates every single day at midnight UTC to provide you with a fresh set of seven letters and a new hidden Pangram challenge. You can return every morning to maintain your streak and test your vocabulary against the new board. Depending on where you live, this may be earlier or later than midnight in your local time. The letters and word list change completely at that time each day, providing a fresh challenge every 24 hours.
You reach Genius rank when you earn roughly 70 percent of the total possible points for that specific puzzle. Finding the Pangram and spotting longer words helps you hit this milestone faster than finding short four letter words.
Our version offers a similar challenge to the New York Times Spelling Bee but we provide an Unlimited Mode so you can play more than one puzzle a day. You can also play our game completely for free without needing a digital subscription to The New York Times.
We use a standard open dictionary that includes many of the same words found in the NYT Spelling Bee but we may accept some valid words that their editor excludes. This means you might find our word list slightly more generous than the version you play on the Times website.
You earn the secret Queen Bee title only when you find more than 90 percent of the answers and push all the way to 100 percent completion. This hidden rank appears when you clear the entire board and serves as the ultimate achievement for players who want to go beyond the standard Genius level.
